Governors Development

The Redevelopment of William Gilpin School

Over five years ago, having successfully enhanced the educational facilities by incorporating the attached flat into the main body of the school, the Governing Body decided that in order to meet a much increased demand for places and to enable us to offer every child the best possible education and opportunities to meet the needs of the 21st century, we had, whilst retaining the school’s Victorian façade, to initiate a substantial building and redevelopment programme.
Following much planning, fund raising, negotiation and hard work by all concerned the £1.7 plus million Building and Resources programme was successfully completed in December 2010. This has provided us with 2 new classrooms, a hall, a room for community use, a music room, changing facilities, a new library, the refurbishment of the existing classrooms, a new kitchen, a new car park, PE and media equipment. We are now starting work on the Development of the Outside Areas, which is being planned as a 5 year programme to develop external facilities and resources in our extensive school grounds.
We still have to add the finishing touches to wall displays etc. and hold an official opening! The children were so excited when they first went into their new hall they burst into spontaneous applause! What better thanks could we have asked for? We now have a light airy and spacious working environment which children, staff, parents and visitors can enjoy. We are extremely lucky and very grateful to the many people and organisations that have helped us either by donating their time, money, skills or support over the last few years.
