‘ The greatest oak was once a little acorn that held its ground ’

Welcome to Class 4

We warmly welcome you to Oak Class, I am Miss Mayman and will be your Class teacher. We are fantastically supported by Mrs Collins and Mrs Granger who work both supporting Oak.

We love sport and learning outside in Oak. We welcome lots of opportunities to play sport against each other and other schools, work on our individual fitness in our Daily Mile and develop coaching skills to support each other and the younger children in school. Please ensure you ALWAYS have a P.E. kit in school to make the most of our time outside.

The children in Oak are encouraged to take on a range of extra responsibilities such as House Captains, Junior Road Safety Officers, Peer Mentors, Librarians, Sports Monitors and Anti-bullying Reps. In addition, each Year 6 pupil is a ‘Buddy’ to one of the newer pupils in Reception. They also may be given additional job roles in class.

Each year Oak work hard to put on an amazing end of year production involving singing and dancing as well as acting. Last year’s 'A Letter from the Trenches' was a triumph!

Weekly homework will consist of spellings, tables and at least 3 home reading sessions. There will also be extra SATS practice for Year 6s. Plus there will be a topic based project once a half term.

In Oak we strive to do our best in all aspects of school life to prepare for the next step: moving to secondary school. This involves lots of skills such as looking after our belongings, adapting to change, homework routines, preparation for SATS and looking out for each other.

For me the very best part of being a Year 5/6 teacher is watching every child mature into confident, well-rounded Year 7s, ready to take on everything secondary school can throw at them!
